The Vibe
You absolutely have to check out the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge Observation Deck, especially if you're in Austin. It's truly a five-star experience, and what it’s known for, of course, is the incredible bat flight. Around sunset, the bridge transforms into a living spectacle as millions of Mexican free-tailed bats emerge, creating swirling patterns against the evening sky. This observation deck is perfectly positioned to give you an unobstructed view, so you’ll see the entire colony take off over Lady Bird Lake. It's an ideal spot for families, groups, or even solo visitors looking for a unique Austin memory. Parking can be tight right around the bridge, so consider parking a few blocks away and walking, or using rideshare. Aim to get there at least 30-45 minutes before sunset to snag a good spot, as it gets quite popular.
