When you use TownHop, we collect anonymous usage data to improve the app - things like which pages you visit and which businesses you view. We assign you a random anonymous ID stored only in your browser. We do not collect your name, email, or any personally identifying information unless you choose to submit a review, photo, or business claim.
When you create an account, we also collect: your email address, username, profile information (display name, avatar), location data (when you use geolocation features), taste preferences, trip plans, check-in history, and activity feed data (friend activity, event RSVPs).
We use Google Analytics 4 and our own internal analytics to understand how people use TownHop. These tools may set cookies on your device. You can opt out at any time by declining cookies on your first visit or by clearing your browser cookies.
If you submit a review, photo, or business ownership claim, we store that content in our database to display on the app. Reviews and photos are subject to admin moderation before going live. Business claim submissions include your contact email solely to verify ownership - we do not share it with third parties.
Anonymous analytics data is retained for 90 days and then automatically deleted nightly. User-submitted content (reviews, photos, videos) is retained until you delete it or delete your account. When you delete your account, content is anonymized by default. You may also request full data erasure (GDPR) from your Profile โ Edit Profile โ Account settings.
You can delete your account and data directly from Profile โ Edit Profile โ Account. Three options: deactivate (hide profile, keep data), delete account (anonymize content), or delete everything (full GDPR erasure). You may also request deletion using the form below. If you are in the EU, you have the right to access, correct, port, or erase your data under GDPR Article 17.
TownHop may request access to your precise geolocation through your browser's navigator.geolocation API. This data is used to show nearby deals, center the explore map on your location, and enable check-ins. Precise geolocation is only collected with your explicit browser permission. You can deny or revoke browser geolocation permission at any time through your browser settings. We do not collect background location data.
To provide personalized recommendations, trip planning, and business summaries, user data such as taste profiles, search queries, and trip preferences may be processed by third-party AI services (Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini). No personal data is stored by these AI providers โ data is sent only for real-time inference and is not used to train their models.
We share data with the following service providers solely to operate TownHop. None of these providers receive your data for advertising purposes.
