The Vibe
You really need to check out Buffalo Bayou Park while you're here; it's hands down one of the city's best green spaces, and the 4.8-star rating is well-deserved. Spanning miles along the bayou, it's perfect for a long walk or bike ride, especially in the late afternoon as the sun starts to dip, casting some beautiful light on the downtown skyline – that's when the photographers come out. You'll see everything from families picnicking near the playground at the Johnny Steele Dog Park end to serious runners hitting the trails, and plenty of couples strolling hand-in-hand. Parking can be a bit tricky on weekends near the Waugh Bridge Bat Colony viewing area, so try the lot by the Water Works at Sabine Street or even consider a ride-share if you're going for a specific event. The Cistern, a historic underground reservoir, offers a unique art installation and a cool escape from the heat, though you'll need to book tickets in advance for that.
