You've got to check out Dawson's Creek Winery when you're in Helotes. It's a solid five-star spot, really known for its relaxed Hill Country elegance and, of course, their excellent reds. They do a fantastic Cabernet Franc that's always my go-to, and their Charcuterie board is perfect for sharing. The best time to experience it is late afternoon, just as the sun starts to dip, casting this beautiful golden light over the vineyard from their expansive patio. It's perfect for a date night or a relaxed afternoon with friends, and the crowd is usually a good mix of locals and folks from out of town, all enjoying the ambiance. Parking is pretty straightforward right on site, and while it can get busy on weekend evenings, the service is always efficient. You don't usually need a reservation for a tasting, but if you're planning on staying for dinner, I'd suggest calling ahead.
