You'll see people quietly tracing the "X" marks on Elm Street, observing the Old Red Museum and the Sixth Floor Museum at the Texas School Book Depository nearby, which offers a powerful, in-depth look at the assassination. It's best experienced during the day, when the light allows for clearer views of the various memorials and the flow of traffic gives a sense of the original event. Expect a respectful, contemplative crowd, often with tour groups and history buffs. Parking can be found in nearby paid lots, but walking from downtown hotels is often the easiest option.
