You’ve got to hit South Barbecue if you’re looking for the real deal here in San Antonio, but be prepared for a bit of a wait, especially on weekends. It’s an outdoor-only spot, mostly picnic tables under string lights, which really adds to that laid-back, backyard BBQ vibe. Their brisket is legendary, smoky and melt-in-your-mouth tender, and you absolutely can't skip the jalapeño cheddar sausage; it's got a fantastic snap. Prices are definitely on the higher side, so save it for when you're ready to splurge a little, but the quality justifies it every time. Go early, right when they open, to avoid the longest lines, and definitely plan on sharing a few different meats so you can sample everything.
